A Much Needed 'Thank you, A-Net!' Thread.
Well, I spend a bit of time on these forums, a lot of the time merely reading what people have to say and post about without actually posting myself. However, I can no longer just sit here and watch all the ungrateful players on these boards complain about how aweful A-Net is doing and how if they don't get what they want, then that means A-Net has faile the whole community. A good example of these are the 'we don't want mini-pets', 'loot-scaling sucks' and just about everything that the HA community says.
I just wanted to pass on a thank you to A-Net for creating and maintaining a great game that I, for one, loves to play and has enjoyed over the past two years. I would like to thank specificly, Gaile Grey who actually has the misfortune to deal with the ungrateful people on this and other boards.
Most of these people don't realize that A-Net does what's best for their game. If it's not what you want. then play a different game.
Well, I would just like this thread to be a place where people can thank A-Net and let them know how much you are enjoying their game!
P.S. WTB Flame retardent shield

I started one of these a while back. Some of us have good intentions (like me) but these always turn into a flame fest. KEEP YOUR EYES AWAY A-NET or you'll be saddened by the insults this causes!
I'm really sry to rain on your thread Mazik.
Thankyou A-net!

Kudos for ArenaNet and their project.
Guild Wars might not have perfect gameplay, nerfing decisions might not have always been for the best, but these are growing pains nevertheless.
There is determination in growth and improvement. GW is being taken to the next stage - still keeping the same client friendly concept. That alone allows who knows how many people to experience an online game - without the compulsory need of having to pay for it every month.
And they do listen to the community of players. On that regard, besides Gaile Gray, lets not forget Alex Weekes and all the others from the community relations staff.
P.S. Are you sure you only need a shield?

A "Thank-You" thread is essentially pointless. Why did you post it if you know that you'll be flamed?
ArenaNet is a for-profit business. They aren't some charity helping the homeless. I thank ArenaNet by continuing to buy Guild Wars expansions.

Thanks for... what, exactly? I payed them 150 dollars for a game, they gave me a game. Then they ruin the game, IMO. Where exactly is the part where I owe them amazing gratitude?
Oh yes, and as you say, poor poor unfortunate Gaile. Having to slave away as a public representative. Sigh, what kind of world do we live in, where people have to work to earn a living?
Anet isn't doing us a favor or something, they are making a product and we are purchasing it.

Exactly.
Anet doesn't deserve a single thank you. What they do, and the changes the make to the game, are self serving. I don't need constant nerfs to my game, changes that make it less fun for me to play, but continually adding random crap and "claiming" to be balanced brings in more people, who pay their 50$ and thank Anet in that way.
Honestly, I'm not happy with Anet at all, and seeing these random nerfs blow up in their faces is the only satisfaction I get from an otherwise obnoxious development team.

My specific thanks are for the following:
Hard mode - so much fun
Increased storage - a bit overdue, but so nice!
bringing back fun farming and killing mindless farming - Loot scaling was brilliantly conceived and executed.
keeping the game continually fresh, so that I can keep playing a game looong after I would have quit most other games.
hidden treasures
ability to save and share build templates
addressing exploits as they are discovered to keep the game fair for all.
Heroes
Titles
Lockpicks
Events
Creating a game that rewards thinking, creativity, and planning over grinding but that provides grinding opportunities for those that want to play that way, too.
A game that lets me play it however I want to play it whenever I decide. I can progress the plot with friends or solo depending on time available. I can try out fun new builds I find on Guru and Wiki. I can farm for greens, complete an elite mission, create a new character, compete on a level playing field in PVP at will.
And, if I don't feel like doing any of that, I feel no pressure whatsoever to play, because, you know what, I'm not paying a nickel for the privilege to play each month.

You all complain that A-net nerfs your game, however, if A-net were to make it that everyone was amazingly strong, you'd all complain as well.
A-net does an amazing job with Guild Wars. They get £20 per game sold, and thats it, while Blizzard (WoW) gets, around £77 Million a month.
Compared, WoW is awful, it has the worst customer service, and is CONSTANTLY nerfed, it also has the biggest community of whiners i have seen.
With the money Arena-net gets they do an AMAZING job, and to be fair, $120 for infinite play time is a bargain. Guild wars is possibly (if not THE) best priced game on the market; constant updates, and only a one time fee.
If you don't feel you should thank A-net, then I personally don't think you should be playing this game.

and you wanting to keep your favorite fun farming exploit intact is not self serving?
just about every change that has helped the casual player was bitterly opposed by status quo players like you including guaranteed rune salvage and the rune trader.

Suddenly I'm realizing that I've played Guild Wars for about two years... incredible.
Three cheers for Anet, for providing the only game that I simply can't get bored of.

Explain why Anet deserves to be thanked. Let me quote Zinger:

Because they could quite easily charge £10 a month (being a PROFIT orginisation)-considering the game is better than WoW, and many other pay monthly games.
However they don't, this for one reason at least is a reason to thank them.

Because the people who make and run GW are actual human beings. There are a billion and one ways to make money, and it's pretty close minded to believe that A-net spent all their time on GW only because they thought it would make them filthy rich. Whether you want to realize it or not, there are people that work for A-net that have their jobs because they enjoy what they do. This is not to say that everyone at A-net would do what they do even if they didn't get paid, but to believe that profit is the only motivation behind GW is a very close minded perspective.
Also, one should take into account that the more passion a group has about their project, the better the result will be produced. If the community does nothing but piss on A-net, the people that work there will have less motivation to try to make the community happy. This same philosophy has been embraced by enlightened employers. Employees may come to work because they have to, but make their work an enjoyable situation and they will become more productive. Crap on the devs when they try to help the community and you will have less inspiration behind what comes in the future.
There's nothing wrong with productive criticism, but making assumptions that A-net makes it decisions based on apathy or stupidity just because it's not what you agree with is a sad pessimistic oversimplification.
I don't agree with all the changes that A-net has made, but I think that they generally have made their decisions with the player's best interest in mind. Thank you A-net.
